WHAT IS GSM AND 3G TECHNOLOGY?

GSM means Global System for Mobile Communications

In 1982 1G First Generation was introduced where network signals were analogue and used Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA)

2G Second Generation was launched in 1992 in which signals and speech channels were digitally encrypted. 2G used Time Division Multiple Access(TDMA)

2.5G Deployed in 2003 which implemented High Speed Circuit Switched Domain(HSCSD) Data rate 236.8kbps to 384kbps by using Enhanced Data Rate for GSM Evolution(EDGE)

3G has very different functions like it allows simultaneous use of speech and data services at higher rates and better spectral efficiency.

3G Standard

International Mobile Telecommunications IMT-2000 which is popularly known as 3G or 3rd Generation standard for mobile phones and telecommunications services to make 3G globally applicable.

3G UMTS  Universal Mobile Telecommunications System uses W-CDMA WideBand-Code Division Multiple Access as main interface. Also known with other names. In Japan called FOMA Freedom Of Mobile Multimedia Access. In China known as TD-SCDMA Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access. Basically all these are variants which uses different radio interface.
W-CDMA networks can give speed upto 384kbps maximum.

3.5G HSUPA upgrades the uplink for higher data transfer speed and capacity of 1.4 ,1.9 ,5.8 Mbps. HSUPA name is given by Nokia and used in its phones only but 3GPP does not support this name.
HSDPA High-Speed Downlink Packet Access having faster speed from 1.8 ,3.6 ,7.2 to 14 Mbps.

3.75G HSPA High Speed Packet Access is a combination of HSUPA and HSDPA that improves the performance of W-CDMA and can attain speed 21Mbps to 28Mbps.

HSDPA High-Speed Downlink Packet Access having faster speed from 1.8 ,3.6 ,7.2 to 14 Mbps.

3.9G HSOPA Some networks dubbed it as 4G. This project is known as Long Term Evolution and uses OF-DMA Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing which will offer data rate at 170Mbps for up-link and 320Mbps for down-link.

4G Constitute of 4G has not been standardized yet.It is non-backward compatible with new higher frequencies bands. It is defined to be comprehensive and secure for the users. 4G will only be packet-based (all-IP) switched network. Facilities like IP-telephony (IP-based voice data), Ultra-broadband internet Access 1GBps (Gigabit speed) Support for IPV6 protocol, Gaming Services, High Definition HDTV, Streamed Multimedia and many more new services are added!!!

UMTS operates on frequencies of 850/900/1700/1900/2100 MHz. Most 3G phones support at least 2 frequencies. No 3G phone available which supports all 3G frequencies.
It depends on service provider what speed and frequency it adopts for its 3G network and what type of 3G compatible phone you have to fully exploit ,utilize and enjoy the services.

Distinguish Between iPad And iPhone

Distinguish Between iPad And iPhone
There is much misconception about the Apple iPad that it is a larger version of iPhone. This is a false assertion because both have different set of hardware, software and some technical specifications. So if you have a iPhone, you need to think about buying a iPad then first set your priorities. There are some deeper analysis on both the devices so as to understand them better.
Distinguish Between iPad And iPhone

iPad Cost More

iPad is much bigger, much sophisticated and thus much costlier. Price of a iPad depends on the amount of storage the iPad includes as well as supporting the 3G network. An iPad equipped only with Wi-Fi connectivity costs $500 (16GB), $600 (32GB), or $700 (64GB). The 3G version costs around $130 more at each size–$630 (16GB), $730 (32GB), and $830 (64GB).

The iPad also pushes more coughing off money from the user as it significantly dents in the wallets by purchasing apps, ranging from free to $20. These apps are more expensive than iPhone apps.

iPad Hardware

iPad is big and fat, and hard to carry. Therefore, many people prefer iPhone rather than iPad. However, new ipad weighs around 1.5 pound and seems comfortable. iPad demands a protective case because this delicate piece is not meant to throw inside your bag among other stuff.

iPad Multimedia

iPad has more multimedia features than iPhone and this is where iPad has an edge over the iPhone. You can watch videos on the iPad 9.7 inch display. Also, iPhone’s external speaker is weak compare to iPad and good quality as well. iPhone web browsing is also a comfortable deal but with a bigger display, iPad gives a full page display.

HTC Sensation Review

HTC Sensation Review

The launching of HTC Sensation is an important event in the world of Android-based smartphones not because its Korean rivals in the market (Samsung & LG) showed their flagships before it, but also because of the fact that HTC Sensation is the most advanced smartphone based on Android in the planet. Yes the Taiwanese company has outdone its rivals. The processor speed, the amount of RAM, the screen resolution and the other features are the best you can get in the market at the moment.
HTC Sensation Review
The Sensation takes us a year back when the Android-based smartphone market was dominated by the HTC. They might be a bit late in announcing their product but I guess they can be excused for that.

Controls:

The HTC Sensation has the same sensor unit that the HTC uses in all its smartphones which really are comfortable as they are well-spaced and backlit. The power button is on the top edge of the phone near the 3.5 mm headphone plug and the volume controls are located on the left side of the device. The Sensation does not have any camera buttons, it is activated from the menu. The USB port is also located on the left edge of the phone. However the Sensation does not have any HDMI output and so if you need to connect your Sensation to you LCD, then you have to buy a special HDMI cable.

Screen:

The HTC Sensation flaunts a 4.3″ touchsreen that is very capacitive, a S-LCD that the company uses in all its new smartphones. It is also one of the few smartphones with a qHD resolution of 960×540 pixels making it a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Camera:

Mounted with 8-megapixel camera, the HTC Sensation has two LED flash. It supports videos in FullHD with upto 1920×1080 pixels.
Apart from all these, a Swype technology has been implemented in basic keyboard and there is a new Weather widget. Sensation is built on a Qualcomm MSM 8260 platform having 1.2 GHz dual-core processor. The device has 768 MB RAM and 1 GB of storage. It has microSD cards slot and of course Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth.

How does OMR sheet works?

Many traditional OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) devices work with a dedicated scanner device that shines a beam of light onto the form paper. The contrasting reflectivity at predetermined positions on a page is then utilized to detect the marked areas because they reflect less light than the blank areas of the paper.
Some OMR devices use forms which are preprinted onto 'transoptic' paper and measure the amount of light which passes through the paper, thus a mark on either side of the paper will reduce the amount of light passing through the paper.
In contrast to the dedicated OMR device, desktop OMR software allows a user to create their own forms in a word processor and print them on a laser printer. The OMR software then works with a common desktop image scanner with a document feeder to process the forms once filled out.
OMR is generally distinguished from optical character recognition (OCR) by the fact that a complicated pattern recognition engine is not required. That is, the marks are constructed in such a way that there is little chance of not reading the marks correctly. This does require the image to have high contrast and an easily-recognizable or irrelevant shape. A related field to OMR and OCR is the recognition of bar codes such as the UPC bar code found on product packaging.
One of the most familiar applications of optical mark recognition is the use of #2 (HB in Europe) pencil bubble optical answer sheets in multiple choice question examinations. Students mark their answers, or other personal information, by darkening circles marked on a pre-printed sheet. Afterwards the sheet is automatically graded by a scanning machine. In most European countries, a horizontal or vertical 'tick' in a rectangular 'lozenge' is the most commonly used type of OMR form, the most familiar application being the UK National lottery form. Lozenge marks are a later technology and have the advantage of being easier to mark and easier to erase. The large 'bubble' marks are legacy technology from the very early OMR machines that were so insensitive a large mark was required for reliability. In most Asian countries, a special marker is used to fill in an optical answer sheet. Students, likewise mark answers or other information via darkening circles marked on a pre-printed sheet. Then the sheet is automatically graded by a scanning machine.
Many of today's OMR applications involve people filling in specialized forms. These forms are optimized for computer scanning, with careful registration in the printing, and careful design so that ambiguity is reduced to the minimum possible. Due to its extremely low error rate, low cost and ease-of-use, OMR is a popular method of tallying votes.

IE Users in Serious Trouble?

Microsoft Internet Explorer

Millions of Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) users of all versions may have to to forego using it for now unless they want to risk personal info stored in their PCs to get stolen. It was all over the blogosphere this week that a security flaw was detected and some malicious hackers took advantage of this lapse and stole thousands of passwords saved.

Even if only online game passwords were reportedly stolesn, some experts are not discounting there could be some unreported cases that did more damage that what was expected.

The security loophole was confirmed by Microsoft in this excerpt fromtelegraph.co.uk:

The flaw allows criminal gangs to take control of people’s computers and steal their personal information when they visit websites that have been corrupted by malicious hackers. It is believed that as many 10,000 sites have been compromised since last week.

Microsoft said that it had detected attacks on machines using Internet Explorer 7, the most widely-used version of the browser, but that other versions are “potentially vulnerable”.

“We are actively investigating the vulnerability that these attacks attempt to exploit,” the firm, which also makes the Windows operating system, said in a security statement.

“We will continue to monitor the threat environment and update this advisory if this situation changes.”

Security experts are advising IE users to switch to any web browsers for the time being until they have installed the latest security patch from Microsoft. For more updates about this patch and on how to install it, just visit click this LINK.

Google Chrome

Google Chrome

If you have not heard the latest news this week, then you might have missed the release of Google’s new web browser, called “Google Chrome.” According to some estimates, Google Chrome has already gained 1 percent of the browser market share in its inaugural unveiling a couple of days ago. It is still way behind Microsoft’s Internet Explorer with about 70 percent of the market, and Mozilla’s FireFox which has about 20 percent of the market, but it seems to be making great strides. Apple’s Safari browser accounts for 6 percent of the remaining 10 percent.

Some of the reasons why Google Chrome seems to have received quite a good following is that it presents a sleek appearance, it groups pages into easy-to-manage "tabs" and offers several ways for people to control their Internet privacy settings.

Another reason is the name. As with any technological device or system, novelty draws in crowds, and the Google seal of approval helped to raise that awareness.

I just downloaded Google Chrome 2 days ago and from what I observed so far, it is really minimalistic or lacks some very useful features compared to FireFox. However, this can be an advantage too because it means less pressure on your processor power. If Google Chrome maintains this type of browsing, without any heavy updating in the near future, then they will most probably become the most functional lightweight mobile browser in town.

After I downloaded it, I was able to import my bookmarks from Internet Explorer and Firefox, including browsing history and other data in seconds. The installer immediately detected my local settings and loaded the installer wizard and Google Chrome itself using the local language. You can switch to English language if you like though.

Chrome also has some cosmetic differences from Internet Explorer and Firefox, like putting the movable tabs at the very top of the window. The look is very clean and sleek although the absence of a menu bar and other tool bars on top of the window is a bit disorienting at first. However, without these menus, you can have more space for viewing web pages and minimizes the distractions brought on by various buttons.

Another feature of Google Chrome that separates it from the rest is that it automatically allows you to diagnose problems with runaway plug-ins easily, because it tells you exactly which pages are consuming which resources. Had I been able to do this with Internet Explorer or Firefox, it would have saved me from hours of browser troubles.

Well, that is what I can say for now for this latest addition to our blogosphere. Just be aware that there are still some who are saying the browser is still buggy and slow at times. Try it out yourself if you want to find out.

Testing iPhone 4S Speed from 2 Networks

iPhone 4S Globe and Smart
Competition is expected to be the critical driver of performance and innovation in business. The benefir accrues to everyone by allowing them to choose from an array of excellent products at affordable prices. Competition also encourages the adoption of innovation as companies evolve and new ideas flourish in the marketplace.

It appears that competition is the reason right now why both Smart Communications Inc. (SMART) and GLOBE Telecoms are offering their clients the "best iPhone ever" – iPhone 4S. Among its new features are its dual core A5 processor, a 10-megapixel still camera with 1080p video capture, and its ability to connect to 4G HSPA networks.

For three years running, GLOBE has the monopoly of the lucrative iPhone market. That ended on 16 December 2011 after SMART launched their own iPhone 4S offerings. This is significant for the latter because it will be the first time that iPhones will be offered to its 47 million network users.

So what's the difference between the two network's iPhone 4S plan? The price won’t be much of a factor since the level will stabilize later or if not, the difference will be very negligible. There must be something that the consumers would like to see if ever they want to part ways with their hard-earned money.

"We invite everyone to put our phones side by side with those of the competition and see for themselves just why Smart is the best choice," said Smart chief wireless adviser Orlando Vea.

The challenge of side-by-side testing was accepted by a local blog, www.unblog.ph. A barrage of speed tests were made in different parts of Metro Manila using two units of iPhone 4S with unlimited data activated from the two networks.

The test parameters are the following:
  • Speedtest iOS app is the main measurement tool.

  • DL speed has more priority than UL speed. However if DL speeds are too close to call the blog looked at the UL speeds as well and Ping.

  • Server was set to Hong Kong to make sure of telco neutrality in the results.

  • www.unblog.ph also did some Youtube HD downloads
The result: SMART iPhone 4S performed better in all eight (8) areas in terms of DL speed. GLOBE fared better in only two (2) areas out of eight (8) in terms of UL speed.

The blog reminded its readers that the test is 100 percent conclusive since there are tons of factors that can affect mobile data speed like congestion and weather. However, if the consumers will be tied up for two years with one network, it is better to use something close to a scientific and evidence-based than nothing at all. Many consumers are well-aware that listening and watching movie stars promote products from GLOBE and SMART are not enough. Most would like to get the value for their money.

Acer Mini Laptops – Sifting Through the Market Noise

Acer stormed out into the netbook world with quite a few netbooks to choose from. Bypassing Asus and Dell, two leading manufacturers of netbooks, Acer has made a name for themselves in the mini laptop market by providing quality, affordable, and miniature netbooks to the public. It would be impossible to try and cover all of the Acer netbooks available, but I’ll do my best to highlight the ones that I think are noteworthy in the brand and why I think they’re worth picking up.

Acer Mini Laptops
It’s so easy to get lost in the sea of specifications and gimmicks that companies toss back and forth that buying a computer goes from being a simple task to a month long excursion from store to store and from clueless employee to clueless employee. Hopefully by the end of this article you’ll have a better idea of what Acer has to offer and why they’re leading the charge with some of the best netbooks on the market today.
Branding
Before we go any further, it’s important to understand how all of these netbooks are named so that you can better remember what it is you’re looking for when you go to buy one. All of the netbooks Acer has released have been released under a subsidiary brand called “Aspire One.” Each computer we’re going to discuss has a product name or code similar to “Acer AOXXXXX,” with the “AO” being short for “Aspire One” and the “XXXXX” standing for the numbers or computer code they’ve used to identify each product. Seeing a laptop without that code from Acer probably means that it isn’t actually a netbook, but rather a full sized laptop.
Most Popular
Two releases in the Aspire One lineup have surpassed all of the others by what could be considered a landslide. The reason they’ve accelerated to the top so quickly is because of what’s inside their netbook shell. While neither computer takes leaps and bounds above any of the other products they’re competing with, each is unique in its own right and deserves a closer look. Here are our contenders.
AO532h:

Acer-aspire-one-AO532h
Think of this as the younger sibling to the computer that’s going to follow. Featuring the standard Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor and 1GB of RAM, this little guy has all of the same features as most other netbooks on the market. It’s sleek and snappy for on the go computing and is perfect as a school or work companion to get a little extra work done without having to sit at home and fumble with a desktop or laptop.
Specifications
  • 1.66 GHz Intel Atom N450 Processor
  • 1GB DDR2 Memory
  • 160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
  • 802.11 b/g/n Wireless Certified
  • 10.1″ WSVGA Acer CrystalBrite LED Display, Intel GMA 3150 Graphics
  • Windows 7 Starter
  • Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life
While nothing extravagant, this computer shot to popularity because of the vibrant colors it was offered in. Many people, myself included, are pretty tired of the standard glossy black finish that most netbooks come standard with these days. The splash of color you can get with the AO532h is a nice refreshing change. But if you want to step out of the standard netbook arena altogether, it may be time to look at something a bit more powerful….
AOD255:

Acer-aspire-one-aod255
And the AOD255 is that more powerful something. The main speed boost for this machine comes from the added dual core processor, which is a huge upgrade over the original single core Intel Atom. Most everything else is the same: 10” screen, 1GB of RAM, and a 1024×600 resolution monitor. Although the rest of the computer may seem the same, the dual core really boosts performance more than you’d expect. Everything is much snappier and you won’t be waiting around for programs to load or open.
Specifications
  • 1.5GHz N550 Dual Core Processor
  • 1GB DDR3 RAM
  • 250GB SATA Hard Drive
  • 802.11 b/g/n Wireless Certified
  • Up to 8 Hours of Battery Life
  • Windows 7 Starter

Tablet pellets help reduce power bill in steel plants

RANCHI: A team of experts from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has developed a steel-making model which helps reduce energy consumption. After conducting the research on various aspects of steel making, the team has concluded that if companies use tablet pellets in their furnace, they can effectively bring down energy consumption.

A member of the IIT team from Kharagpur, Manish Kumar Sharma, shared the findings during a three-day international conference on Energy Efficiency in Steel Industry (EESI-2011) that was inaugurated here at the Ispat Bhawan. It was inaugurated by SAIL chief director (personnel and technical) B B Singh.

"After conducting a series of tests, we have arrived at a conclusion that tablet pellets are the best and activation energy is 1,000 degree Celsius against 1,200-1,300 degree Celsius in case of other forms of pellets," said Sharma. The tablet pellets are better than sphere or cylinder pellets.

"We have successfully completed the prototype tests in a rotary hearth furnace. In the next phase, tests will be done on a large scale to check commercial viability," he added.

At present, the iron and steel industry accounts for around 15% energy consumption in India. Energy accounts for around 35-40% of the cost of production in Indian steel industry.

Vice-president of the Illinois-based LanzaTech Prabhakar Nair appreciated the steps taken by research and development institutions all over the world. "There is immense pressure all over the world to bring down energy consumption, especially in the wake of growing demand to cut carbondioxide emission. I hope that in near future, these steps will bring down energy consumption in steel making," said Nair.

Former scientific advisor to the Union government V S Arunachalam delivered a lecture on "curtailing carbondioxide: Challenges and opportunities in steel industry".

Various companies including Jindal Steel and Power Limited, JSW Steel Limited, LanzaTech, Earth Tekniks, Precision Engineering, Technical also exhibited their products at an exhibition organized at the venue. More than 15 foreign experts from Austria, Belgium, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Russia and USA along with 200 delegates from India are participating in the conference.

Aakash tablet goes on sale for Rs 2500 online

Aakash tablet goes on sale for Rs 2500 online
Datawind has put up for sale about 30,000 tablets online at a price of Rs 2500 each, with a delivery period of seven days.
NEW DELHI: Datawind, the maker of theworld's cheapest tablet has put up for sale about 30,000 tablets online at a price of Rs 2500 each, with a delivery period of seven days.

The seven inch tablet with Android 2.2 is now available through its portal aakashtablet.com. "We have put up on sale about 30,000 tablets online, which will have a cash on delivery of 7 days. We have achieved pre-sale orders of about 400,000 tablets from individuals and corporates. But current supplies will only be limited for individual buyers," Datawind CEO and founder Suneet Singh Tuli told ET.

Aakash's next commercial version called the Ubislate 7, which has a faster processor, is slated to be launched late January. Ubislate 7 is set to have a 700 Mhz processor compared to the 366 MHz processor in Aakash. Ubislate 7 will be priced at Rs 3000 for sale online.

Datawind though seems to be struggling with customer service issues for online retail, even though the sale is only for a limited number of tablets.

According to sources, the Indian government is also planning to provide a new specification for Aakash, which may come with a faster processor and better battery life. The current version ofAakash has a battery life of about 1.5 hours. An email to the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, which is supplying the tablets to schools and colleges remained unanswered.

The government till now procured only 10,000 tablets. It has still not procured the remaining 90,000 tablets for distribution in schools and colleges, even as other nations have expressed interest to the government for similar low-cost computing initiatives.

The Best Laptop For Music?

Wanna go mobile with a powerful recording machine? Yes, the best laptop for music production... they do exist but you need to make sure you get the right one. I know them all, good and bad so hear me out.
Lots of people are going mobile these days and I did the same thing a while ago... I left my big old desktop computer for a sleek brand new laptop, it was a Mac Powerbook to be exact.
It used to be that if you were serious about recording in your home studio on a computer you pretty much had to go with a tower, or desktop to get enough power to run your audio recording software program. Well, over the last few years some manufactures have really put some effort into getting that same power that was only found on the big towers into their laptops and some of those have even made specialized models specifically for music production.
Now when I talk about the best laptop for music I don't mean one that has a great pair of heavy duty built-in speakers to crank up your mp3's! We are talking about the best laptop for music production so let's take a peak under the hood shall we?
You can't spend $500 on the same computer a school kid does and expect to have a powerful enough recording machine. A typical laptop these days might have something like this:
  • Intel core i3 2.26 GHz processor
  • 4GB of RAM
  • SATA 5400 RPM Hard Drive
  • 14" Display
And almost no external ports other than a few USB ports. Compare those specs to something like the Roc Box Laptop made by PCAudioLabs:
  • Intel Core i5 2.40GHz (520) Processor
  • up to 8GB of RAM
  • SATA2 7200rpm Hard Drive
  • 15.6" Display
And as far as external ports which are very necessary in your studio... 1 eSATA port, 2 Firewire 400 ports, 3 USB ports, 2 channel HD audio with 3D stereo enhanced sound system.
The most important differences here are very key things that you'll notice when recording...
Slightly faster processor, double the RAM (this is huge), the Hard Drive speed of 7200 is mandatory for most recording software programs, and of course the extra ports, most importantly Firewire. The PCAudioLab Rok Box Mobile Laptop HD Computer rivals some of the Rok Box desktop models which were also designed specifically with music production in mind.

LCD TV Technology

The abbreviation for LCD is Liquid Crystal Display and this LCD technology provides low power requirements and less weight. LCD screens can also be used as computer monitors. Each pixel in LCDs emit light of intensity for a time period of 20 ms and it typically takes 12 to 25 ms to switch to next stage.
The response time can be shortened by using the over driving technique and by the panel design. They also act as a good component for playing video games. The older LCD models had a ghosting problem and the response time is shortened by the manufacturers as 2ms for computer monitors and 8 ms for LCD displays.
This technology is based of the function of polarized light. Two thin laminated polarized sheets are attached to the glass having a very thin layer of liquid crystal. It has 2 regular dimensional grids of electrodes, which allows every pixel in an array to be activated and selected individually.
The LCD technology is used in large screen televisions with active matrix addressing in combination. Earlier LCD models had a low end technology when compared to large screen plasma televisions. But now, the LCD TVs are able to provide a high end performance.
Currently, sixth generation panels are introduced by branded manufacturers like Sharp Corporation, LG display, Sony and Samsung. The 65 inch panel was first introduced by Sharp in 2004. Then Samsung introduced 82 inch panel in 2005, 100 inch panel by LG Electronics in 2006 and 108 inch panel by Sharp in 2007.
The High Definition LCD TV was introduced by Silicon Mountain as Allio in 2008 which is integrated with a Blu-ray player. In the future, many plans of dollar investments for LCD production have been announced by the manufacturers. So these LCD televisions will definitely make a key product in the market.

Learn the Real Difference Between Plasma and LCD TV

Long time ago, consumers only settle for a good enough television screen. When major improvements in screen size and image quality came, consumers were more than happy to throw their old television sets and get a hold of the newer models. This is how we value good home entertainment. It's always nice to know that the TV manufacturers recognize this consumers' wish for better home viewing experience. And so as the years passed, the television technology has reached its full potential. We now enjoy big screen watching right at the comfort of our own homes.
But because of this development in TV technology, consumers got confused as to which technology to choose. Three kinds of high definition technology emerged and even more confused the consumers. Questions like which size to get, which type of screen to choose, and which one between and Plasma and LCD TV to purchase came up. So to ease that confusion, here are some guidelines you could check before finally purchasing a new TV set.
Most of the consumers now cast a vote on the LCD TV technology. Experts claim that this kind of television is sturdier and more functional than the other choices. Different sizes are available and ranges from 32 inches being the smallest up to 70 inches of screen. The LCD technology has been around for years because it is the same technology used for wristwatches. Modern technology improved it making it suitable for bigger types of home appliances such as computer monitors and televisions.
The LCD TV shows off a really thin screen measuring not more than a couple of inches deep and has a weight light enough to be mounted on the wall. Before, sizes for this TV are very limited but manufacturers like Samsung have managed to improve this issue and are now capable of creating screens as big as 108 inches.
There are only few drawbacks stated for this kind of TV technology. One is the color intensity with black not being as dark as it should be. Burn-in issues seem to be the least problem for LCD TVs. Dead pixels or spots where a pixel does not respond properly has also been reported. But these issues are now being addressed by big LCD TV manufacturers such as Samsung.
Plasma televisions, on one hand, seem to operate pretty the same as the Liquid Crystal Display TV. They have the same flat screen style and slime exterior. They differ in technology in the sense that Plasma TVs use neon and other static gases to create images on the screen. This kind of technology takes pride in their good color intensity. their blacks are rally dark that they seem to glow and the images produced are more vivid and look more real than the other kinds of TV. Their sizes vary as well but smaller screens are not available since they only have screens of 40 inches and up.
However, Plasma TVs are reviewed to give burn-in problems. This kind of technology seems to be not suitable for computer game playing. They also come a little more expensive than LCD TVs because the energy consumption is quite high. Some consumers noticed that even though they saved some cash on the initial purchase of the unit, their power consumption or electrical bill increased.
Making a choice as to which technology to choose depends mostly on your needs. It is also better that before finally purchasing one, you must get as many information as you can. Comparisons will help you choose whether Plasma or LCD TV technology suits your kind of home viewing entertainment. Understanding the positive features and negative feedbacks of a technology will really help you make the right decision.

How to Compare LCD TVs

When watching sports, fans need a television with fast action. They need to have enough enhancements to be able to not blur or have slowness when in motion. The recent adjustments to LCD televisions allow them to be the perfect TVs for sports. LED has a unique back-lighting which will fix some of the issues of motion lag or a jerking effect that occurs on the side of the panel called judder.

How Is an LCD TV Different Than Others?

There are three main televisions that people can buy on the market today; they are LCD, plasma and LED. Though they all look great, the way they create a picture is different. For example, a plasma television works by passing electricity through sheets of plasma cells. This is what creates the picture. Plasmas once had a longer life over the LEDs and the screen size for the price made them an excellent deal.

LED TVs and LCD televisions are really one in the same. The terms are often confused. The term LCD stand for Liquid Crystal Display because of the gasses inside that form the picture. These televisions do not heat up; therefore, they are perfect for hanging on the wall. Because of their back-lighting capabilities, they have the most vivid picture. That makes the LCD screen ideal for a sports night with the guys. When comparing several of the LCD models of televisions on the market today, customers will see that the LCD is much thinner and weighs much less than the plasma sets do. For those who want the biggest screen in the LCD, it will cost a little more than the plasma. However, paying a little more for higher quality is worth it in the long run. Customers who choose LCD televisions over the plasma sets usually find that they have made the best choice for their money.

Sports In HDTV, The Ultimate Viewing Pleasure!

The great thing about LCD televisions is that they come with standard HDTV capabilities. It seems to bring the action of the field itself to the sports viewers. It is almost as good as being at the game in person. Gone are old days when viewers had to turn the lights out in the television room to get a clearer picture. With the back-lighting technology that is associated with LCD televisions, the picture will be crystal clear whether watching it day or night. There will be no need to turn the lights out unless it is necessary. When comparing the benefits of LCD and the plasma televisions side by side, the viewing difference is quite evident. The picture on the plasma is good; but for the quality wanted for sports viewing, the LCD definitely has the advantage. It has the clarity that customers want for gathering friends around and watching the game. Because of the ability to hang LCD sets on the wall, they are less likely to be in the way of an excited and rowdy group of viewing fans.

LCD Technology and the Best Sports Watching

Like the old commercial of peanut butter meeting chocolate, it is kind of the same feeling when the sports fan finds the best television for watching games. Nothing goes as good with sports as an ice cold drink and an LCD television. There are several brands on the market and customers just have to do some price comparison to get the best LCD screen for them and their families.

Some LCD models have four inputs so hooking up DVD players or other extras will not be a problem. They utilize something they call motion flow technology. What this does for the sports lover is it erases the blur from moving images. LCD technology allows for thinner screens. Some recent makes offer Picture in Picture capabilities. The HDTV on some of these screens is picture perfection with ultimate mega pixels. Sports fans can catch instant replays and also the current picture with the PIP capabilities. Televisions with LCD screens provide vivid, true-to-life colors. The high definition allows watchers to actually see the lines in the sand on the baseball diamonds.

No matter which television one chooses for watching sports, they will find LCD technology an excellent option on the market today for sports viewing. Whether fans want picture- in- picture options or the ability to hang the set on the wall, all these features will come into play. With the ability to give blur reduction and to allow a sports fan to even see the minute details of the grass and surrounds, it is no wonder that so many people choose LCD for their sporting events.

How Capacitors Work

Flash capacitor from a point-and-shoot camera.

In a way, a capacitor is a little like a battery. Although they work in completely different ways, capacitors and batteries both store electrical energy. If you have read How Batteries Work, then you know that a battery has two terminals. Inside the battery, chemical reactions produce electrons on one terminal and absorb electrons on the other terminal. A capacitor is much simpler than a battery, as it can't produce new electrons -- it only stores them.
In this article, we'll learn exactly what a capacitor is, what it does and how it's used in electronics. We'll also look at the history of the capacitor and how several people helped shape its progress.

Inside the capacitor, the terminals connect to two metal plates separated by a non-conducting substance, or dielectric. You can easily make a capacitor from two pieces of aluminum foil and a piece of paper. It won't be a particularly good capacitor in terms of its storage capacity, but it will work.

In theory, the dielectric can be any non-conductive substance. However, for practical applications, specific materials are used that best suit the capacitor's function. Mica, ceramic, cellulose, porcelain, Mylar, Teflon and even air are some of the non-conductive materials used. The dielectric dictates what kind of capacitor it is and for what it is best suited. Depending on the size and type of dielectric, some capacitors are better for high frequency uses, while some are better for high voltage applications. Capacitors can be manufactured to serve any purpose, from the smallest plastic capacitor in your calculator, to an ultra capacitor that can power a commuter bus. NASA uses glass capacitors to help wake up the space shuttle's circuitry and help deploy space probes. Here are some of the various types of capacitors and how they are used
.
  • Air - Often used in radio tuning circuits
  • Mylar - Most commonly used for timer circuits like clocks, alarms and counters
  • Glass - Good for high voltage applications
  • Ceramic - Used for high frequency purposes like antennas, X-ray and MRI machines
  • Super capacitor - Powers electric and hybrid cars
